Butterscotch
Butterscotch came to
Crosswinds with "Boy" (SBWAGAN), and immediately claimed him for her
boyfriend and partner at the farm. She fussed and threatened to jump
her way out of first a stall and then the pasture to be with him every
time he was away from her. Over time, she finally settled in, which is
good because in June Boy moved on to his new home!
Butter is an extremely bright,
crafty, typical pony....she
is fully capable of untying half hitch knots, opening stall doors,
jumping 3
foot pasture fences, or anything else that entertains her day!
We were able to rescue Butter thanks
solely to the
generous donations of Colleen and Larry Dixon. And, they have stood by
the
little filly, being her sponsor and covering her monthly needs. Thanks
so very
much, Larry and Colleen! Without you, sadly, Butter would have likely
gone to
Texas to the slaughter plants like so many other unwanted youngsters.
Shown above right, Butter begins her
saddle training. As a
yearling, butter was gradually introduced to a saddle blanket, then
saddle, then
cinch, then girth. Shown above is the first time a rider set astride
Butter. She
was so happy to be getting attention, we continued to lead her for
nearly half
an hour, the pony obviously just enjoying herself enormously and
without so much
as a hint of bucking or fussing!
05/04 Update: Eleven year old Tory Cross has been doing the bulk of
Butterscotch's ground training, including her round pen exercises.
Butter responds fabulously to Tory, and drops in behind her to follow
anywhere Tory leads.
10/04 Update: Butter's
riding training has gone AMAZINGLY well. this darling future child's
pony has
never so much as flicked a tail in dislike during her riding time. she
is so
sweet, so docile, we have chosen to train her specifically to be for a
child's
pony, despite her young age. She walks and trots with ease and grace,
and will
literally stop on command with no reins. she backs with ease, goes
wherever she
is asked, and is simply a pure joy to be around. On her 10th ride, we
took
butter on a 6 mile trail ride, including her leading through weeds
taller than
her head! She has been to a horse show and was a perfect lady, placing
2nd in
Walk Trot and 3rd in Egg n Spoon (had we been able to canter, she
surely
would've won!) We also rode through barrels, keyhole and poles at a
trot, and
she didn't spook or fuss at any of the excitement. What a great pony
she is!

We are thrilled to
announce that Butter has now gone to
live with the Myers family, about 20 miles from Crosswinds, to be
the child's pony we believe is her ideal future with 2 wonderful little
girls,
both of whom have riding experience, and both of whom have worked with
Butter under our guidance for the entire month of September. CONGRATS,
Butter,
and Congrats, Myers! |
