Summary:

The family who donated Caydee and Nico met them both in very poor conditions, and purchased them to save them from abuse and the threat of 'killing the useless animals'. They did their best to care for the 2 of them, despite limited horse experience. Then, health issues intervened, and she could no longer provide for them. They donated them both to CWER, with hopes we can put their lives on the right track and give them meaningful futures as more than just lawn ornaments.

Caydee arrived fit and in good health, simply in need of some basic medical updates and farrier care. She has that beautiful, fluid, Arabian way of moving, particularly when excited. We couldn't wait to get her confidence and then start her on a formal training program to determine what this girl's nitch might be.

In July 08, Caydee got to meet the Kaluf family, parents of Laddie, Majesty and Buster. Caydee immediately adopted daughter Heather as her life partner. Caydee went from skittish and nervous whenever away from Tess, to completely attached to this human and unaware Tess, or anyone else, existed while in Heather's presence. We are thrilled at their connection, and Caydee will be going home as soon as we can arrange it.

History:

Intake Notes: Caydee arrived quite timid of people, and very herd bound to Nico. She dances, prances and yells when Nico is taken out of site, even just for a minute. She seems dominant over Nico as far as with feed, but seems to use Nico for a 'security blanket', at least during times of stress and significant life change.

We were told that Caydee was abused by the people the family took her from -- smacked on her legs with a 2x4 for kicking when frightened/upset. She was also neglected and malnourished. Caydee's timid behavior make sense given her history.

She needs basic farrier care, but otherwise, Caydee seems healthy and fit. Her hooves are in reasonable condition and should need little more than some training to be able to trim her, then a normal trim. In the next several weeks, we hope to get her trimmed, earn her confidence, and start basic ground training with riding training on her schedule as soon as she tells us she is ready.

March 2008: This is one sweet, adorable mare. I believe that the lady who donated Caydee was mistaken. By personality and behaviors, I believe Nico was the abuse case; Caydee is easy going, laid back and trusting. She also never shows any sort of aggressive behavior.

Caydee is riding! And is a pure joy to ride. She is just so willing, so trusting, so open. We've only had 3 rides so far, and already we are starting to do short trots. She walks off easily after mounting (stands to mount), turns smoothly, and halts with ease. She's not always sure what she's supposed to do, but she's thinking, listening, and trying. You can see how relaxed she is in the photo. She does argue a little -- a great sign of confidence and that she's thinking! -- but without being difficult and never ever mean.

photo coming soon July 08: Heather K meet Caydee this weekend, and Caydee immediately chose her as a life partner. Caydee has been VERY attached to Tess for these past months, and is usually VERY fussy in Tess' absence. Now, with Heather at her side, Caydee had no interest in going with Tess, even when loose across the pasture fence from Heather. They had an exceptionally good ride together, and both girls showed more confidence and trust together than either has shown riding with another partner. We're thrilled that they will be going home soon.
Sponsorship: Caydee no longer requires sponsorship, as she is going home. Congrats, Heather; most of all, Congrats Caydee!
