5yo (3/28/04)
registered Belgian Mare, riding English and trail, 60+ days
professional training
Summary:
We met Daisy in spring
2008, when her owner asked us to put 60 days professional trainer on
this mare. Sometime in her life Daisy had been significantly abused --
with significant scar tissue in her ears from ear twitching and various
other signs of abuse.
In 60 days, we watched Daisy blossom into a
trusting, forward, willing eager riding partner. Sadly, while Daisy had
learned to trust her owner, her owner could not find the confidence to
return her trust. The two were not confident together even after
several sessions here and at home with us as trainer to assist. Her
owner donated her and asked us to find her the right forever home.
Daisy is a very large mare, and her size is
intimidating for some. She used to be aggressive, but with respectful
yet firm handling here, she has learned proper ground manners and is
now gentle and easy with people and other horses alike. She is often
handled by young and inexperienced volunteers. She is a pleasure to
ride, with a strong forward gait but not hanging heavily on her riders
hands.
History:
We loved having Daisy in for training. We were
disappointed when it didn't work out for her owner, but are happy to
work with her again, and to help Daisy find the right future.

Daisy had her first
ride after her return to CWER tonight. She was well mannered for
saddling and bridling, stood nicely for mounting, and have a very
successful ride indoors and out. She remains fairly forward and
energetic, and requires a confident yet patient rider. She rode
successfully and smoothly at walk trot and canter in both directions.

DAISY went home today!
Leslie has been talking to us about Daisy for some time now, and we
were thrilled she was able to come meet the big mare and then take her
home today! Leslie had owned a belgian gelding previously who sadly had
to be laid to rest. Her boy was closely related to Daisy, and she's
excited to have Daisy coming home to her boarding barn!
We look forward to updates on how the pair are
doing in the weeks to come.
