Overall
Health:

|
- LACY IS ONLY PASTURE SOUND AND CAN NO LONGER
RIDE. SHE HAS A STIFLE INJURY TO THE RIGHT HIND AND WE ARE SEEKING A
PASTURE COMPANION HOME FOR LACY.
- Lacy has had an easy life,
without a lot of work asked of her.
- Lacy has had all needed
shots, dental work, etc in 2008 and 2009.
- Lacy is an easy keeper,
mildly overweight, and ready to get busy in a new career.
- Lacy had a fall with a
rider, summer 2008, and needed chiropractic work to get her hip working
again.
- Otherwise, she has no known
health
problems or injuries at any time in her life.
- She prefers 24/7 turnout to
being stall kept, but has been successfully stall boarded recently.
|
|
Ground
Manners:
B
|
- Lacy is easy to manage as
long as she is kept to a routine.
- Lacy gets nervous if she is
unsure what is to be expected of her, and takes some time to settle
into a new barn or a new routine.
- Lacy ties well but get antcy
and will paw or fidget.
- Lacy leads nicely with just
a halter and even no halter, when she is comfortable with her location;
if she is nervous,
she can be flighty but still responds to people.
- Not a beginner's horse
but not hot headed or hard
to manage, either.

THE
INFO BELOW WAS BEFORE THE STIFLE INJURY WAS DIAGNOSED. LACY IS NO
LONGER APPROVED TO RIDE. WE ARE SEEKING A LIFELONG PASTURE COMPANION
HOME. IT IS POSSIBLE SHE COULD RECOVER EVENTUALLY TO LIGHT RIDING, BUT
UNKNOWN.
- Lacy's experience is almost
entirely as a trail horse.
- For an arena career, Lacy
requires additional riding training.
- She needs work on balance,
confidence, and rating her gaits.
- We believe Lacy's original
training was western, but she has also been worked in English tack,
single reins easily, and is getting comfortable in a light but
consistent
contact such as a typical hunter / English show horse.
- When nervous, Lacy can be
flighty but not unmanagable. When confident of her surroundings, Lacy
rides easily on a relaxed rein, turns smoothly and stops nicely on
request.

nervous but still respectful. Requires a little patience.
- Shots: A. No fuss! Stands
relaxed for vaccinations.

while in our care..
- Worming: A. No fuss, doesn't
pull away, doesn't spit it out or drop or wipe it on handlers.

brushing and hoof cleaning, but gets mildly impatient. Doesn't
obviously enjoy grooming like some horses.

| Adoption Fees |
Lacy is pasture sound only and, as such,
will go on a $0 adoption contract, for a lifelong arrangement. This
means that if the adopter ever cannot keep Lacy, she has somewhere to
come -- back to CWER -- so we can again help find her a new forever
home as a pasture companion.
Please call or email for confirmation of the adoption fee and any other
questions you may have about this or any of our adoptable horses.
Please visit our adoption qna page
for details on how our contract works, adoption application, and an
explanation of when and how we transfer ownership. |
Overview: Lacy is a magnificently beautiful tricolored paint mare.
She has brown, white and black in her coat and mane/tail and is a real
looker with tons of chrome!
Lacy was donated to CWER
because her owner purchased her, but they simply weren't a good match.
Lacy's owner was looking for a very quiet, very easy, relaxed weekend
horse; Lacy is insecure and needs a more confident handler who will
guide her, and does best when she receives more regular workouts and
has a set schedule. Her owner was worried where Lacy might end up if
she simply placed her in the paper, so she donated Lacy to CWER.
Lacy rides nicely, and
has even paced gaits. She has clearly been trained western at some
point, but also easily understands single reining and works well with a
light but steady contact to her bit. In a confident rider's hands, Lacy
will calm down and walk easily around the arena as long as asked, and
will stand and be patient, but she would obviously prefer to be moving
and going. Lacy has had at least some trail experience, but we have not
had the weather or opportunity to take her trail riding yet.
HISTORY:
Upon Arrival, January 09:
Lacy spent some time here at CWER last summer for a basic riding
refresher, in hopes we could help her settle down to the quieter level
of riding partner her new mom was seeking. We were pleased that her mom
trusted us enough to donate her to CWER when she decided that she and
Lacy simply weren't a match and that neither was happy with their
arrangement.
Lacy is fit and healthy, well cared for and fully current
on her shots et al. We will simply wait out the winter weather and then
do at least some basic training refreshers with Lacy, then begin to
work on finding her the right forever home.
August 2009 update:
We don't know if Lacy had any soundness issues pre-2008. The vets say
it is likely this is a long term problem from several years ago. Lacy
had a fall during the summer of 2008 with a prior owner. Afterward she
was
occasionally stiff and not as fluid on her right hind hip. She had
chiropractic and was moving better. Occasionally she will play rough or
stumble in the pasture, causing the hip to be sore again. We have
injected that hock and had chiropractic on that hip; the injection
actually seemed to aggravate the problem. This month we had another
vet/farrier team review Lacy's issues, and they confirmed our fears --
Lacy has an old stifle injury which has not healed and is unlikely to
do so. We are seeking a lifelong pasture companion home for Lacy.
It is possible she will come sound again and would again do light
riding for a lightweight experienced rider, but we just can't know.
Sponsorship: ADOPTED!
Lacy's bloodlines are noteworthy on both
sides, going back to Bar, Roan Kate, Skipper W, McCue, Nugget, Two Eyed
Jack, and King!
