Laddie was foaled in spring 2001 at U of I. Mom was more than 25 years old,
and died of strangles just hours after her birth. The owner abandoned her at the
University, refusing to pay her bill. A wonderful horsey family and dear
friends, the Clems, took little "Lady Luck" in, and bottle/bucket fed
her for several months, then transitioned her to grain. |
|
|
The Clem's spoke to us about taking in Laddie when they
learned we had just started our rescue and were getting Zee.
As soon as Zee was settled in, we brought Laddie to our new rescue, and
began the process of teaching the little orphan how to be a horse. |
| Laddie blossomed into a nicely sized 15+ hand mare, well built with
gorgeous movement and an amazingly willing spirit. At just 2 years old, we
regularly used Laddie for riding lessons, including for beginners. While not push button, Laddie would
never do anything scary or dangerous with a new rider on her back. Laddie has
shown great potential for dressage and or hunter/jumper type arenas and we knew
she would be
a fantastic 4H/pony club project for a young rider looking to get into either
discipline. She rode great on trails, rides into town, loaded herself on the horse
trailer, and all in all is just a joy to be around. |

February 2005 Update: |
"Laddie (Lads, Lady Jealousy), what can I say?
She is maybe the most amazing horse I've ever met. Loves Andrew and
him her. They are quite a matched set. She knows which saddle
she has on; Western is play time. However, when the English saddle
is on she knows the foolishness is to stop and to head for the rail.
Andrew taught her to neck rein and she is fully controllable from her back
with a lead line on only one side of her neck (part neck rein, part bit).
She has matured into a gorgeous black young lady. A bit taller than
when we brought her home, filled out fully. Very strong
willed..still not push button but you could put any age/experience on her
for the most part and be fairly confident she'd not do anything stupid.
Andrew and her will be getting fairly serious about showing this
spring/summer. Unfortunately our stable did not do a winter show
series this winter so they will have a lot of work to do. 4-H will
continue to be the primary push, but since my summer is a bit more open
than in the past we will do as many other shows as possible. They
will show mostly Hunter under saddle, halter and showmanship. Some
contesting will also be thrown in. However at AM's suggestion we
will have Lads knees checked to make sure all the gaps have closed up.
We don't want to do anything to keep her less than 100% all time." --

June 2005 update:
|
"Andrew and
Laddie competed in the Indiana 4-H Area 7 Horse show this past weekend.
This show consists of 11 counties. A win at this show
automatically qualifies you for the Indiana State Fair. Andrew
rode Laddie in four classes:
Halter:
Sr. Hunter Type Showmanship- 5th
Hunter Type Mare over 56"- 3rd
Riding:
Hunter under Saddle- 3rd
Hunt Seat Equitation-1st!!!
Their equitation
pattern was flawless, the best they have ever done and they are now
automatically qualified for the IN State Fair! They will still do
the county fair but they don't have to worry about trying to make the
State Fair based on their performance at the county level." -- Steve
