Magicman arrived at Crosswinds via surrender by an owner who has not used to a "hotbred" animal and was having significant difficulties handling Magicman. She was afraid of him, and he was thin and a hard keeper.  If Crosswinds could not take him in, he was destined to go to auction where, with his attitude, weight and pain, he might have gone to slaughter.

Magic quickly won a place in Gerry's heart as the big gentle gelding showed an amazing soft side, and how much he enjoys attention. The middle 2 photos above show Magic at 2 local horse shows while still at Crosswinds, strutting his stuff!

We were THRILLED to place Magic in July 2003 with Timbermist Farms in Kansas City, MO, a fantastic saddleseat farm and riding school where Magic is now performing wonderfully as an academy show horse. The last photo on the right, above, is Magic happily at work, all filled out and looking fantastic!

We all still hope someone will recognize the big gelding from his past, and be able to identify him. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Magic is a registered saddlebred who once was someone's showing pride and joy. Exactly how he ended up several hundred pounds underweight and with significant back pain, at this point, is anyone's guess. CONGRATULATIONS, Timbermist, and CONGRATULATIONS MAGIC!

12/03 UPDATE from Timbermist: "Healthwise, he is doing great, looks very cute when he gets it all together, tho some days he is still stiff, tho he "warms" out of it.  He continues to improve, both in his way of going, &his being able to tolerate holding his head up without wiggling around in the bridle.  His neck muscles are still sparse, but he's getting there.  He shows us he wants to be a show horse sometimes, he can hit a trot we didn't think was in him, &seems happier to be "busy" rather than ridden like a pleasure horse. "

05/04 UPDATE from Timbermist: "Magic is doing wonderfully -- he's in the May 2004 Nat'l Horseman magazine on the "Undefeated" page with Amber Miller, & also with Courtney Bensen riding.  We have a 4 pg. spread under Timbermist, look for him there, he's the one with the blinker hoods. Look at his motion now!!"

Summer 2010 update: Timbermist contacted us, letting us know that Magic was ready to retire. Gerryleah Cross personally accepted ownership of magicman -- the first horse she did training work with back in 2003 -- and took him home with her in Colorado.

Winter 2011 update: Sadly, Gerryleah has reported that Magicman needed to be put to sleep recently. He had a terrible bout with colic, after several recurring prior bouts, and the vets could not help him this time. Rest in peace, gentle boy.
