MQ Queen "Majesty" arrived at Crosswinds from the monthly auction in Arthur, IL. This gorgeous, wonderfully bred 3 year old belgian mare has an undocked tail, and was almost certainly intended to be a broodmare. However, the seller was quite adamant she has never been ridden, driven, or bred. Of course, he doesn't say they never TRIED, and she is a VERY dominant mare who may very well have displayed her displeasure forceably on an expensive stallion, resulting in their decision not to keep her as a brood mare.

Majesty has a nasty scar on her left cornea, and her vision in her left eye is limited. The eye had been scratched and infected, and did not fully heal. She also had a bite on her face on her left side, obviously received the day of the sale, again attesting that her vision is not very good on her left side.

Majesty is a sweet, friendly mare who truly likes human contact. She has little training, but has not been abused, which is a real plus for a draft coming into the rescue. We anticipate her making rapid progress into riding training in the month of November, 2003.

11/1/03 UPDATE: Majesty completed her first riding session without any incident or difficulty at all. We look forward to her continued progress! (Riding photos above are all Majesty's first day of riding!)

02/04 UPDATE: Majesty's riding training is coming along wonderfully! She is very comfortable under saddle now, although she still needs some work on directional control. You can see her here having a blast playing in the snow!

03/04 UPDATE: MAJESTY IS NOW IN HER NEW HOME, with the Kaluf family, who also adopted Laddie. Congratulations, Kaluf's, and esp. congratulations, Majesty! Bottom right photo is Steve Kaluf, Maj's new dad, riding Maj at the end of a 10 mile trip to town and back while still at Crosswinds!

10/04 UPDATE: Majesty is doing fantastic in Indiana. She was back to Crosswinds for a weekend visit recently, and looks so great and is doing so well in Steve's care. Her hoof split problem continues to require special shoeing and regular care, but the Kaluf family are providing her everything she needs.

WINTER 2004 UPDATE: The Kalufs are truly a happy family, with 3 great Crosswinds adoptees in their care that are just as happy! We cannot thank them enough for all they do to support Crosswinds. THANK YOU!!

February 2005 update: Maj is pretty much in charge, although I'm not sure she has not mellowed a bit. In her pasture are now Laddie (wants to be in charge), Buster (just wants to be left alone and have Maj and Laddie protect him), another draft gelding (that could care less what the other dumb horses in the pasture do), a TB mare (very mellow for the most part) and a Percheron X mare (that may be the most obnoxious horse I've ever seen), fortunately she's only here for the winter.

Maj has lost a little weight, and built up some muscle mass.  She still has issues with her front feet (one mostly) and this will be an ongoing thing for some time to come.  Gets kind of expensive every four weeks, but she is more than worth it!  She is quite rideable most of the time.  Her and I are working on getting her canter more consistent and to happen when I ask her for it, especially when in the indoor arena.  She is not fond of it [the arena].  She is still a big baby for me.  She is my friend and comforter.  We are waiting for the trails to dry out...that's our thing!  We love to play on trails.

majhartmeyer.jpg (236873 bytes)August 05 update: Majesty is doing great. We're still working through resolving some issues with her left front hoof, but she continues to enjoy lots of trail rides and, here, showing with Gerry from Crosswinds at the Hartmeyer show this month!
