Cherokee's Miss Paris
Summary: Paris is an
adorable, nicely sized paint/quarter horse cross mare who does not
have any significant paint markings. She arrived as a yearling, rescued
at a sale barn, who has had a muscle tear in her neck
that is healed but will always have a nasty scarred shape. She is
sweet and energetic, and a joy to be around. Paris is very smart, and
playful, and loves to learn tricks and skills that please her human.
History:
Paris
came to Crosswinds from the Danville auction in '05. Her parents are
both
registered,
and she could be registered as breeding stock paint or as AQHA. The hay
shortage
of 2005 meant there were a lot of weanlings and yearlings being sold
inexpensively, many going to slaughter. We made sure Paris wasn't one
of them. We trained Paris to ride in '06, then adopted her to a
fantastic home; sadly, it wasn't the
right match for Paris. Paris needs an intermediate rider who is both
patient AND willing to be firm and clear in her direction for Paris, to
keep Paris from taking advantage of her partner. Paris also wants a
riding partner who is more interested in learning new areas and
directions, in doing more difficult skills, and stretching her limits.
Paris' former owner wasn't able to give her that level of challenge
and, wanting only the best for Paris, has asked CWER to help Paris find
her future.
| REPORT CARD: |
| Overall Health: B |
Paris had an injury to her
neck as a youngster which was never properly treated, leaving a nasty
scar. The scar doesn't seem to bother Paris at all, and it has little
effect on her flexibility, riding, or other parts of her normal life as
a horse. |
| Ground Manners: B |
Paris can be mildly pushy
at times, but generally has very good ground manners.
Paris will step back from her stall door when asked, and wait for her
door to be opened, and you to come to her, to take her out to pasture. |
| Basic Riding Skills: B |
Paris has a very solid
foundation under saddle, but hasn't ridden much in the past 2 years. We
wil be updating this data once she gets settled back in at CWER and we
can share videos of her current work.
Paris has always been VERY responsive and a joy to ride. She is NOT for
a beginner rider because she responds so easily to leg, voice, weight
and rein commands -- even if a beginner did not mean what s/he said!
Paris will hold a line as asked seemingly indefinitely, until her rider
asks her to change course. |
| Ideal Career |
Paris has the right brain
for lower level dressage. She loves new challenges, changes speed and
direction nearly on her rider's thoughts, handles skills such as spiral
in and spiral out with ease. |
| Stall Manners A |
Paris has been stalled
partial days regularly at her former home, and is easily handled and
well mannered while stalled. |
| Trailering Skills A |
paris loaded herself, rode
calmly, and unloaded simply when she returned home. |
| Companionship/Pasture B |
Paris is mildly dominant in
the pasture, but not alpha. She will try to boss around horses who are
much below her on the pecking order, but isn't nearly in charge. |
| Routine Healthcare Skills C |
Paris has not been overly
well behaved for the vet or farrier with her prior owner. We will work
on these skills once she is settled back at CWER. |
