Health:

|
Phoenix
arrived an 8 year old TB/Clyde cross mare in
excellent physical condition.
As of 11/12/11, Phoenix needs to have a basic hoof trim to balance her
hooves, and a chiropractic exam to ensure she is moving in good balance.
She has had all of her shots and other needs met, and is at a solid
weight. She carries good pasture muscle tone; she has not ridden in
months and needs to become riding fit again. |
Basic Riding Skills
Dressage B
Jumping unknown
other skills not yet known |
As of 11/12/11, we have completed just one ride
with Phoenix. It is VERY clear that Phoenix has extensive riding
education in dressage, to include lateral work such as side passes,
turns on forehand and haunches, shoulder in and and haunches in, etc.
We believe Phoenix has also been trained to jump but have not as yet
explored her skills in this area.
Video, 11/13/11: Enjoy 2
very short segments of
Phoenix' first ride at CWER -- both are Phoenix and I doing basic
lateral movements (she is moving sideways, not forward). This is a VERY
skilled mare with a lot of education in dressage, and possibly in other
areas as well. Some trainer put an enormous amount of time into this
mare in her past. If Phoenix isn't the right horse for YOUR needs, will
YOU please share Phoenix's skill with your experienced equine friends
to help her find a forever home? You can do so on facebook or by email,
on youtube...by printing out her info and mailing it to a friend.
Please help us help Phoenix get back to a show arena and great home
where she belongs. |
| Ideal Career |
Phoenix belongs in the show ring, or otherwise
with a show level rider who is going to enjoy her skills and education
and take her in new directions and at new levels. She is NOT for a
beginner or intermediate rider, as she is very extensively trained and,
for example, knows the difference between her rider squeezing lightly
with her upper thigh vs her knee vs the calf. |
| Stall manners A |
Phoenix has clearly been stalled in her past, and
has good stall manners. She doesn't bang or paw, pace or fuss. She has
stayed overnight in our stalls for several evenings as we were
transitioning her with Prince into our facility, and her stall is neat
and well kept as would by common of a former show horse. |
| Trailering: B+ |
Phoenix loaded easily, hauled comfortably like an
old pro. She was mildly nervous at unloading, looking for her long time
companion Prince. Now, she is very secure in herself here and her place
in the herd and has no concern for Prince's behavior.
11/12/11: If we were to transport her today we would rank her a "B" --
very easy to load, hauls like a pro, easy to unload. Not so quiet and
confident that we would allow a beginner to handle her during the
process, but for someone who has handled horses on and off trailers
they would be pleasantly pleased with how easy she is. |
| Companionship/Pasture manners: A |
Phoenix is a VERY easy pasture mate. She isn't so
low in the herd that she gets pushed around and picked on, but neither
is she in the drama or trying to fight to be top horse! She doesn't get
along overly well with our alpha, Tess, but she is aware enough to not
bother or irritate Tess nor any of Tess' 'henchmen'. |
| Ground Manners C+ |
Phoenix is a fairly high energy, big, trained
show horse. She knows about personal space and listens reasonably well
on a lead rope. She knows she is a large, strong horse, and will still
take advantage of a timid or inexperienced handler. |
| Routine medical care |
We have not yet
had any significant medical care provided for Phoenix beyond a simple
initial examination |
| Adoption Terms |
Phoenix, as she stands, is nearly ready for a
forever home, with an experienced/advanced rider. Phoenix is definitely
experienced in dressage and is VERY repsonsive to her rider's weight,
legs, hands, all cues given. We anticipate finding she is similarly
experienced for jumping. SHE IS NOT FOR A BEGINNER, NERVOUS, OR
INEXPERIENCED RIDER.
Phoenix is an exceptionally well built, big boned but not heavy
moving Warmblood, with solid forward energy, extensive training, at an
ideal age, and a solid mind. She is clearly an easy keeper, and we
don't believe she has ever had any soundness or other health issues.
As of 11/12/11, we do not yet have extensive training time or
evaluation time into Phoenix. As such, we can only set a 'temporary'
adoption fee based on how Phoenix stands today. This preliminary
adoption fee will almost certainly be increased once we are able to do
more extensive work with her and determine her skill set in more
detail.
The preliminary adoption fee is set at $1,500.
Please see our AdoptionQnA pages for
details of how to adopt. |

Summary:
Phoenix
is a big, powerful, gorgeous black clyde/thoroughbred cross
("thoroughdale") who has big solid hooves, lots of bone, light
feathers, and both a reaching, floating trot AND good action. Phoenix
has experience in dressage, possibly jumping/hunter over fences.

| November 13, 2011: Had our
first ever ride with Phoenix this morning! Wow, this mare has power,
personality, and education!!!! She needs a forever home with a skilled
dressage rider, potentially a skilled jumping rider as well. What a
great girl this is!!! |

SPONSORSHIP:
Prince's/Phoenix's
former owner donated prior grain for both Prince and Phoenix.
Unfortunately, the sweet feed/Strategy blend is too high sugar for what
we would like--particularly for a draft we don't want a high carb diet
-- so we will be adjusting her fairly quickly to
a lower carbohydrate diet. However, the blend sent with them will be
used for other horses, so it will balance out her feed costs for at
least the first 30 days. After that, Phoeinx will need a feed sponsor,
currently estimated at $50/month. (As we see what level of feed is
required to maintain a healthy weight while in work, we will adjust as
needed.)
Phoenix also needs
a medical bills
sponsor. Her coggins was provided by the previous owner, THANK
YOU! But she will have additional upcoming expenses that will need to
be
covered as time goes forward.

BLOODLINES: sadly,
