Summary: "Isabelle", registered as "Pro-Fanity", arrived to CWER as a 20-year-old bay Arabian mare who is a trained jumper, about whom we know little else. The donors believe she used to be a school horse for intermediate riders & especially early jumping lessons. Isabelle wintered with a local foster home that works with a lot of Arabians, and they have chosen to adopt her. It is unlikely Profanity will ever be ridable again, given her extensive health issues and her age, as well as her unending nervousness and self-imposed stress. We wish Izzy her best with her wonderful new home and her fellow older Arabian companions. A note from her new mom is below in the 'updates'. History: Wow! Turns out Miss Isabelle has quite a history as an Arabian English Showhorse (similar to saddlebred saddle seat, but not quite the same.) As we learn more of her history, we will post it here. Medical needs: Pro-Fanity has several health issues, not all of which we've determined yet, as of mid-September 2005. We know from initial blood work that she has some kidney issues, and from an initial physical exam that she needs extensive chiropractic and dental work. We suspect she also has a urinary tract infection. She moves AMAZINGLY well for how significant her chiro. needs are. Her first dental workup will be the week of September 19, 2005, and possibly also a very mild first chiropractic adjustment. Her teeth are bad enough she will need two, possibly three, dental sessions in the next 12 months to bring her teeth back to a manageable condition, which should go a long way toward bringing her back up to weight. Updates: October 2005: Isabelle is coming along slowly. We believe she had a urinary tract infection, which we hope we have cleared up. She is eating well, and gradually getting more comfortable with the people here. She is getting over being barn sour, and has attached herself nicely to little paris, the yearling filly recently saved from slaughter. It will be many months before Isabelle is truly strong and well, and at her ideal weight. We are incredibly lucky that a local Arabian lover, who wishes to remain anonymous, has chosen to help care for Isabelle. She will foster her over the winter, and provide for her feed, hay, and basic care needs. CWER will provide any medical care she needs, and visit her regularly. We are thrilled to have this assistance with Isabelle's needs!! Spring 2006: The foster home has chosen to adopt Isabelle, and retire her with the other retired Arabians. We are so happy for Izy, and her new mom! Update from "mom": Isabelle has been at my place since Dec, I think, and has settled in fairly well. She is an extremely hard keeper being fairly nervous so her weight is still not what it should be but she eats "like a horse" so I think it will just take a little longer than usual to get her fattened up. According to the Arabian Horse registry she has been bought and sold several times (even going to Salem Children's Home at one time) during her show career going from Ohio to all over Illinois. Her show record, if accurate, is not spectacular but she did get some ribbons. I have met someone who knew her "when": She had been owned by people with children who rode her frequently and jumped her a little. She evidently is well broke since my friend has seen her ridden by these children. They decided to get out of horses and donated Isabelle and the other horse to a therapy riding stable, but Isabelle did not work out there since her ground manners left a lot to be desired, and the therapy place then donated her to Crosswinds. She is a friendly horse and likes to be the first into the barn at night. Although, she may be dead broke, she definitely is not a beginner's horse since she gets pushy if she thinks she can get away with it. I think sometimes those show horses don't get taught much more than it takes to get them in the ring. But, to me she is a keeper!
