Overall
Health:
A
|
Arrival: excellent, always kept current on medical care,
etc. Needs some exercise to improve muscle tone. |
|
Ground
Manners:
A
|
Arrival:
Rosie is mildly attached to Baby and occasionally is mildly excited if
she is led
somewhere without him. She is rarely pushy on a lead, and will rarely
plant
her feet if unsure she wishes to go where you are leading.
Summer 2011: Rosie is one of the best behaved horses in the herd. Our
most inexperienced volunteers handle her with ease and without worry.
She loves to be groomed and scratched and general attention.

|
Basic
Riding Skills:
B
|
- Arrival: Rosie had 60 days saddle training, at
CWER, 5 years ago. He has done light trail work since.
- Spring 2011: As time and weather have allowed,
Rosie has done several indoor and outdoor rides, doing very well in
both cases. Even with weeks off, Rosie is easily tacked up and ridden
indoors or out, fences or open field, by an early intermediate rider
who has basic confidence.
- Rosie has very solid 'brakes', and always
listens to her rider's hands easily.
- Rosie rides English and single reins. We do not
believe she's ever been taught to neck rein.
- Rosie has some significant trail experience,
including during her original CWER training several years ago.
- Rosie has very smooth, comfortable and
confident walk/trot gaits; she needs more consistent work to develop
the balance to canter as comfortably with a rider.

Ideal
Career
|
Rosie
is a well built classic bloodlines AQHA mare. Rosie has done quite a
bit of trail riding, and would enjoy competitive trail work, ATHA, and
similar. She also has some arena work and would likely do well as a
hunter under saddle, western pleasure, or similar. We do not see that
'go get em' personality in Rosie that would generally fit for gaming
jobs like barrels/poles; however, she would likely be a great 4H horse
for fun shows in all areas.

|
Stall
Manners
A
|
Rosie has spent some time stalled previously. At arrival, her manners
are good, but
she is ready to go back to pasture after eating.
Summer 2011 -- Rosie is very easy going and quiet in her stall. she
waits to be fed or to work, calmly and without upset. She walks in and
out respectfully and easily, and has been groomed and tacked in her
stall without any concerns.
|
|
Trailering
Skills:
B
|
At
arrival: Rosie
loaded within 10 minutes of beginning asking, and rode well. She was
anxious to get off the trailer - especially once Baby was out of
sight
at this new place -- but still respectful.
Summer 2011 update: we have not trailered Rosie since her arrival, but
are confident she would load with ease.

|
Companionship
/ Pasture Manners
A
|
Rosie has always lived in a nice sized small pasture with other horses,
and is very "middle of the herd". She has good pasture manners and
would be very unlikely to bite or kick or 'run down' another horse.
Rosie has continued in just this vein here, including becoming 'nanny'
to Serge the starvation case in spring 2011. She keeps him company,
keeps the others from bothering him without being aggressive.
|
|
Manageability
for Routine and Medical Care
B
|
Arrival -- she dislikes, but is not particularly difficult, for
deworming.
Vet care -- Rosie has had vaccinations, and was sedated for a dental
check, no dental work needed spring 2011. Rosie was very mildly nervous
at the needle but behaved very well.
NOTE: Rosie had a foal 4 years ago (Molly!),
and was exceptionally good for the vet and for handling the baby. This
is her only foal, as her owner has had her since she was just a
weanling.

| Adoption
Terms |
Available!
Rosie has had somewhat limited riding time at CWER; however, she has
handled the 'weekend rider' or 'husband horse' type job (pull out of
the pasture when you wish to ride; no warm-up, no refresher needed.)
Rosie is ready to go home, for an intermediate rider, without
additional training time, the fee is $1,200.
This may be adjusted as training work continues.
If an adopter wishes, we will add an additional 30 days
training in their area of interest for a discounted rate of $250.00.
Please see our AdoptionQnA pages for
details of how to adopt.
|
Overview: Rosie's human family have had financial challenges, and
asked us to take Baby and Rosie and find them new forever homes. Rosie
has always been a bit faster and a bit less calmly sure of herself than
her rider
generally preferred, so she asks us to be sure an adopter knows that
she can be fairly quick and mildly flighty at least initially on the
trail.
She
needs a feed sponsor.
The
feed
sponsor donates to cover the cost of her feed monthly -- $35 per month
at this time.
She also
needs a
medical sponsor.
Rosie is registered with
strong classic paint and AQHQ lines, and her pedigree is below,
courtesy of Allbreedpedigree.com .
Rosie's sire's strong
lines obviously go back to the well known McCue line top and bottom,
including Buck McCue -- sired by Kingfisher. he also goes back to Leo
at least twice, and Bold Venture (TB). Lots of classic quarter horse
lines, here!
Rosie's dam's lines have
significant amounts of big name thoroughbred blood, including Man O War
himself, as well as Sir Gallahad, and, of course, Three Bars.
