Overall
Health:
A
|
ThinkAPrince
arrived in excellent physical condition.
As of 11/12/11, he needs to have a basic hoof trim to balance his
hooves, and a chiropractic exam to ensure he is moving in good
balance.
He has had all of his shots and other needs met, and is at a solid
weight. He carries good pasture muscle tone; he has not ridden in
months and needs to become riding fit again. |
Basic Riding Skills
Dressage B
Jumping unknown
other skills not yet known |
As of 11/12/11, we have completed a few brief,
basic rides
with ThinkAPrince. It is clear that ThinkAPrince has good solid
basic riding
education in dressage, to include leg yields, and carrying himself in a
proper frame at walk and trot, likely canter. He is VERY well mannered
under saddle, eager to please, and clearly has a good solid basic
foundation of hunter under saddle and basic dressage.
We believe ThinkAPrince has also been trained to jump but have not as
yet
explored his skills in this area.
Photos of his first working sessions are on his folder on FACEBOOK!
|
| Ideal Career |
ThinkAPrince belongs in the show ring, or
otherwise
with a show style rider who is going to enjoy his skills and education
and take his in new directions and at new levels. He is NOT for a
beginner or early intermediate rider, as he is light and
responsive to his rider's hands, legs, seat, weight movements. |
| Stall manners B |
ThinkAPrince has clearly been stalled in his
past, and
has good stall manners. He rests well in a stall, bu if left without
hay, he will begin a soft weave or occasionally paw, and if left alone
he will call to other horses. He has
stayed overnight in our stalls for several evenings as we were
transitioning his with Phoenix into our facility, and his stall is neat
and well kept as would by common of a former show horse. |
| Trailering: B+ |
ThinkAPrince loaded easily, hauled
comfortably. He was somewhat nervous at unloading, looking for his long
time
companion Phoenix. Now, he is on longer attached to Phoenix and has
little concern for her behavior but is still worried to be left alone.
11/12/11: If we were to transport him today we would rank him a "B-" --
very easy to load, hauls like a pro, mildly nervous to unload. We would
not allow a beginner to handle him during the
process, but for someone who has handled horses on and off trailers
they would find his manners acceptable and his nervousness common of
most thoroughbreds. |
| Companionship/Pasture manners: B |
ThinkAPrince is a VERY easy pasture mate. He
is VERRRRY
low in the herd, but he simply stays away from the others, and they
ignore him. As he settles into our VERY different environment for this
ex-racehorse we anticipate he will settle into the herd and find his
own place. |
| Ground Manners C+ |
ThinkAPrince is a fairly high energy, big,
trained
show horse. He knows about personal space and listens reasonably well
on a lead rope. He knows he is a large, strong horse, and will still
take advantage of a timid or inexperienced handler. |
| Routine medical care |
We have not yet
had any significant medical care provided for ThinkAPrince beyond a
simple
initial examination. |
| Adoption Terms |
ThinkAPrince, as he stands, is nearly ready for
a
forever home, with an experienced/advanced rider. ThinkAPrince is
definitely
experienced in riding basic hunter under saddle as well as dressage and
is QUITE repsonsive to his rider's weight,
legs, hands, all cues given. We anticipate finding he is similarly
experienced for jumping. HE IS NOT FOR A BEGINNER, NERVOUS, OR
INEXPERIENCED RIDER.
ThinkAPrince is an exceptionally well built, solidly boned but not
heavy thoroughbred with an ASTOUNDING pedigree; with solid forward
energy, solid training, with many years of show or other career ahead
of him, and a solid mind. He appears he will be a fairly easy keeper,
and we
don't believe he has ever had any soundness or other health issues.
As of 11/12/11, we do not yet have extensive training time or
evaluation time into ThinkAPrince. As such, we can only set a
'temporary'
adoption fee based on how ThinkAPrince stands today. This preliminary
adoption fee will almost certainly be increased once we are able to do
more extensive work with his and determine his skill set in more
detail.
The preliminary adoption fee is set at $800.
Please see our AdoptionQnA pages for
details of how to adopt. |

Summary: Prince
is a big gelding who's an athlete at mind and at heart.
He raced for 3 years and 13 starts (like most TBs, never winning a
single dollar), and then we are unsure where life took him, until he
was donated to CWER in 2011. He was donated by a local owner, with Phoenix, because the
family lost their lease on their country property
and could no longer keep the horses. He is healthy and in good
condition although out of shape, and ready for a new career.
|
|
SPONSORSHIP:
Prince's
former owner donated his prior grain for both he and Phoenix.
Unfortunately, the sweet feed/Strategy blend is too high sugar for what
we would like for Prince, so we will be adjusting him fairly quickly to
a lower carbohydrate diet. However, the blend sent with him will be
used for other horses, so it will balance out his feed costs for at
least the first 30 days. After that, Prince will need a feed sponsor,
currently estimated at $75/month. (As we see what level of feed is
required to maintain a healthy weight while in work, we will adjust as
needed.)
Prince also needs
a medical bills
sponsor. Prince's coggins was provided by his previous owner, THANK
YOU! But he will have additional upcoming expenses that will need to be
covered as time goes forward for him.
