| Skills Report Card! |
| Overall
Health: A |
Zima arrived in excellent
health but mildly under weight. Her body condition in Oct '10 is
approximately a
4, where we strive for 5-5.5 for most horses. She is current on all
vaccinations and deworming, and her hooves are in good condition. She
has been well cared for and is looking for a new future.
Spring 2011 -- Zima is fit and healthy and actually mildly OVERweight.
She is an easy keeper.
|
| Ground
manners: B+ |
On arrival, Zima was mildly
pushy, used to using her shoulder to move humans when she wished, and
threatened to nip.
In just a week, she had already settled, and leads respectfully most
times, and clearly LOVES being groomed and having people fawning over
her. She is rapidly becoming quite an attention hound, and has a
super-soft facial expression which she KNOWS melts people's hearts,
particularly when she wants something.
HOWEVER, Zima can be pushy and beligerent if she is offended with a
human's behavior. She is NOT for a beginner and should NEVER be handled
by a beginner. She is learning what is acceptable here, but needs to be
handled by experienced horse people.
Fall 2011 -- Zima's ground manners are good to excellent now, so long
as she doesn't feel trapped or cornered, or carelessly ignored.
IN THE WORLD OF SHOW HORSES, ZIMA'S MANNERS ARE *VERY* SOLID. She leads
with ease, with or without a leadrope, stands calmly to wait for
handling; is obedient for vet and farrier; self loads on/off horse
trailer even after hours. |
| Basic
Riding Skills: C |
We
are told Zima had riding training at a younger age. We worked
with her through our structured training program with the
assumption she does NOT know how to ride, to help ensure we fix any
holes and help her comfortably transition into our world.
11/12/10: Zima saddles with ease, and bridles well but is mildly unsure
about
her bit. She ground drives well but is not overly comfortable with a
bit nor a hackamore when ground driving.
December 2010: Zima had her first rides at CWER! We have the impression
that Zima only ever rode with one person in her past, and she seems
unsure of what we are asking under saddle. It may simply take some time
for her to settle into another rider's style, or she may be looking for
a better partnership on the ground before being comfortable to respond
to her rider in the saddle.
January 2011: We do not have skilled gaited riders in our team, and do
not wish to alter Zima's very natural very fluid gaits. We have elected
to NOT continue riding work with Zima, and are working to find her a
skilled gaited rider.
SHE HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING AGGRESSIVE OR DANGEROUS UNDER SADDLE. SHE
LIKES TO PACE and other variations of MFT gaits that we do not know the
best ways to improve/encourage properly. WE
JUST DO NOT WISH TO TEACH HER THE WRONG LESSONS. |
| Ideal
Career: |
As an initial input, Zima
is a powerful, gorgeous moving, very capable
gaited horse. She wants a "capable", "worthy" human as a partner, and
she wants to
rule the world with and FOR that human. Zima REQUIRES an upper level
rider and handler, as is relatively common
with more-high-strung, registered, show quality horses. She is not a
partner for a timid rider, nor a heavy handed or arrogant rider.
Zima LOVES LOVES LOVES tricks and to show off. She would certainly
excel as a trick horse, as well as an MFT show horse.
|
| Stall
Manners: B- |
Zima normally has good
stall
manners, not turning her rump toward a handler; not kicking or banging
on the walls or fussing about being inside. She used to be anxious
to get out of her stall when her door opens. Now, she waits calmly to
be lead into and out of her stall, and walks with
proper manners to and from her pasture. She is THRILLED to now be in
the big pasture with the entire herd.
Zima can get upset when being handled in her stall, particularly if she
feels she is being trapped or if she REALLY
doesn't want to do what her handler has asked -- such as moving away
from her feed prior to finishing. She should be handled ONLY by
experienced horse people at ALL times. |
| Trailering
Skills: A+ |
Zima trailered well on her
travel to CWER from her former home, and on other trips. She
self-loads, rides with ease (even laying down in the trailer when it
was in stock trailer configuration and driver was stopped to rest); and
self-unloads calmly.
She trailers well with familiar horses.
|
| Companionism/Pasture: A |
Zima is a good herd
citizen in the pasture. She isn't causing fights or
drama, even her first days in the group.
She learned early not to fight with the alpha mare group -- Tessa
and
team. She waits calmly to come in/out for meals and is respectful with
her handlers at the gate to come/go from the barn.
|
| Routine
Medical Care: C |
Zima had basic vet care
including a chiropractic checkup. She was mildly nervous and
periodically pushy, but not unmanagable.
Zima was sedated for dental care and an ultrasound to ensure she
doesn't have any sort of cysts or ovarian issues. She was mildly fussy
for the sedation then easily managed throughout the care porvided.

Overview:
|
Zima is a gorgeous, beautifully marked, well bred
gaited mare. Her family had human health issues so that they could no
longer keep her. She is too high spirited and quick witted to be a good
fit to a beginner, but shows every sign of being a fantastic horse once
she understands the rules and manners expected of her.
ZIMA'S MANNERS/PERSONALITY ARE VERY MUCH ON PAR WITH A TYPICAL HIGHER
END SHOW HORSE, PARTICULARLY IN THE GAITED AND 'HOT BLOODED' FIELDS.
She is NOT a 'pet', or an average back yard horse, but would be
exceptional in the hands of the right partner. |
| TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP Terms: |
7/1/11; Zima needs an experienced handler and/or
trainer as her life partner. She wants to be a show horse or working
horse in wahtever manner her gaited experienced rider prefers, but most
of all, Zima needs a confident single person as her handler and friend.
She is ver emotionally sensitive and needs a confident but not arrogant
person who loves her attentive and attention hungry personality and who
wants to keep her working and busy and happy. Zima should not be
handled by beginner or early intermediate handlers, even on the ground,
unless in a very structured routine that zima knows and understands,
and that the handler is confident and sure of what they are to do.
Because Zima is not a typical "early intermediate" rider type horse as
are most of CWER's adoptables, and because our facility setting is NOT
ideal for Zima's personality, her adoption will be a direct transfer of
ownership. The buyer will own her directly and immediately upon her
leaving our facility with her new owner. As of 11/1/11, her adoption
fee is $750; however, to find her a home for the holidays, her price is
temporarily reduced to $500 for a buyer who contracts for her by
12/15/11. Payment terms available if needed.

HISTORY:
|
Zima was donated to us in early
October 2010. The family have had severe long term health issues, and
they were unable to keep Zima. She is just 4 years old, seems to be in
exceptional health, and we are told she had extensive riding
experience, but would take advantage of a beginner or nervous rider.

training session video and A
Flipbook slideshow of Zima's first days at CWER!
Zima is making very nice progress -- you can see her accepting the
saddle pad and saddle with ease; we did a blindfold practice with the
pad (always a good safety thing to teach a horse!); had a very nice
join-up, easily handled all 4 hooves.
|
| Nov 2010 |
Zima is such a beautiful girl! She
has saddled very easily, bridled easily but fusses with her bit, is not
at all nervous about a rider sitting in her saddle at the mounting
blocks. She ground drove well once she figured out what was asked of
her, but did not show the usual comfort with rein requests (turns,
haults, etc.) from a horse who has had significant riding training
previously. We wil continue to move forward with her as if she had
never ridden to make sure we fill in any holes or problems in her
training.
11/14: Now added -- Zima's
first ride at CWER! |
| Feb 2011 |
Zima is an exceptionally bright mare. She is VERY
possessive and jealous of her humans.
Zima needs a single human partner, someone who will share in her
passion and connection, and want to be her one-horse human as much as
she wants to be your one-human horse.
Zima would absolutely EXCEL as the single-horse partner of a skilled
gaited rider, perhaps for showing, competitive trail, endurance, or
similar. She is stunning and cunning. She excels with training, THRIVES
on mental challenges and attention.
Zima is NOT for a beginner, a timid handler, nor an arrogant or harsh
rider. She gives her all, and craves your praise and attention. She
accepts criticism she believes is fair, but is clearly emotional and
upset if she feels unjustly scolded or that her apology was not
accepted. |
